1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?

2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
  • Research, to me, means to find out more about a certain topic using the internet, books and other sources.

3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
  • The 6th grade research project was both a success and a failure for me.
  • It was a success because I had just moved here and I learned tons of new vocabulary.
  • It was also a failure because I got a C+, my worst grade in my school carreer at that time (after that I also got an F in a pop-quiz in 7th grade and a D- on an Algebra exam).
  • It was mostly positive.




2 - Reflection on Webbing Process (Assigned: Mon. April 7; Due: Tues. April 8)

1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:
  • This webbing process helped me a lot because I was able to narrow my topics down and then pick a topic very easily. It also helped me see my thought on paper/ the computer so I didn't have to remember anything.





3 - Why I Chose This Topic and What I Know About My Topic (Assigned: Mon. April 7; Due: Tues. April 8)

1. Topic: The Black Plague
2. Why you chose it: We studied it in Social Studies, it's part of my home-country's history (Germany), and because it is just something that interests me a lot.
3. What you already know about your topic: The Black Plague, or the Black Death, most likely started in Asia and reached Europe in the 1400s. Similar plagues reappeared throughout the years until it completly dissappeared in the late 1700s or early 1800s (I think). The Black Plague killed between 30 and 60 percent of Europe's population in the 1400s. When you contracted the Black Plague, your body got covered with blueish-blackish dots. (I know some more stuff but I can't recall it right now.)

1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic:
  • How many people were killed?
  • How did it affect the world (especially Europe)? <------- that's my fat question...
  • What areas were affected by it?
  • Where did it start?
  • How long did it exist?
  • Did it come back at some point?
  • What region did it affect most?
  • Were any animals affected/killed?
  • How was it transferred?
  • Were rats the only carriers?
  • What are/were the symptoms?
  • How did it get its name?
  • Were there any "security policies"?
  • Does it have other names?
  • Were a lot of people afrais of getting it?
  • Did all the symptoms appear in ALL cases?





5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking (Assigned: Tues. April 8; Due: Wed, April 9)
1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?

It helped me a lot to find my fat question. Ms. Goodall really was able to show us how important it is to come up with a fat question before starting to write your paper. I would never have thought of coming up with a fat question to organize my research paper.




6 - Search Log (Assigned: Wed, April 9; Due Thur, April 10)
1. What have I learned today?
  • We went over how to create Noodle lists, sources, and notecards. None of it was new to me.

2. What problems have I had?
  • I had a small problem because the mouse on my computer wouldn't work.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
  • I will overcome this problem by being patient with the mouse. :)

4. What will I do next?
  • I will continue doing my notecards to answer all my skinny questions in order to answer my FAT QUESTION.


7 - Search Log (Assigned: Thur, April 10; Due Fri, April 11)
1. What have I learned today?
  • I did not learn anything today since I came late.
  • I was told by Abbas though that they talked about citing databases.

2. What problems have I had?
  • My internet kept crashing so I couldn't really work.
  • At the end of class Mrs. DaQuanno logged herself in so I could work from her account.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
  • I guess I will overcome this problem by logging in on Mrs. DaQuanno's account from the start tomorrow.

4. What will I do next?
  • Next, I will cite all my sources, finish my notecards, and find a book for a source.



8 - Search Log (Assigned: Fri, April 11; Due Mon, April 14)
1. What have I learned today?
  • Today I learned that it was my fault that the internet kept crashing because it didn't matter on what computer or on what account I was on...

2. What problems have I had?
  • My internet kept crashing like yesterday so I couldn't really work again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
  • Even when I logged on on different computer and accounts, my internet still kept crashing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
  • I will overcome this problem by doing my work from home. (Now that's sad!!!)

4. What will I do next?

  • I will now continue to answer my question in NoodleBibs from home. (Another sad comment...what I meant to say/write is: that's another comment sad in and of itself!!! Isn't that a quote from something? It might be Pirates of the Carribean.)
